Video clip: Marc Jacobs, artistic director for Louis Vuitton, discusses his collaboration with Takashi Murakami in advance of the exhibition. At the very end of the clip designer Marc Jacobs reveals the new limited edition handbag collaboration.. hmm, makes me dying to know what’s blurred out in the background behind Marc-ey Marc!!

I for one am not a camouflage fan, however this new addition will have a creative bold pop-design twist to the look – it’s will be designed by prolific contemporary Japanese pop artist, Takashi Murakami!

You know T.M., he’s the creative mastermind behind many of the limited edition Louis Vuitton designer bag lines: The smiling pink Cherry Blossom Flower line, the super adorable cartoon Panda line, the delicious red Cerise cherry line, MOCA LV, the Eye Love You line and of course the Monogram Multicolore made up of 33 different vibrant colors on a white or a black background. All of the collaborations with Takashi Murakami are all highly sought after valuable collectors pieces. So I can only imagine that the monogram camouflage bag collection will be as big as the previous limited edition bags.

Date still unknown, but rumor has it the new line is due out sometime this year.

Working on the occasional collaboration project with Louis Vuitton isn’t his only creative venture. Murakami, who attended the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, works in both fine arts media, such as painting, as well as digital and commercial media. He founded the “Kaikai Kiki,” a studio where Murakami formulates the ideas but then has his 100+ assistants produce his work. In addition to producing art works for exhibition in galleries and museums, KaiKai Kiki is responsible for the design of an enormous range of mass-produced products featuring Murakami’s signature images: figurines, plush toys, keychains, t-shirts, posters, and more. I still can’t wait until the Takashi Murakami & Dream Works animated film to be released. Disney is so out.

Designer Gucci Hearts New York Handbag Collection
Come February, Gucci will be opening their doors to the world’s largest, brand new Flagship Store over at 725 Fifth Avenue. For the new boutique, the brands creative director Frida Giannini has designed a selection of exclusive products named “Gucci Hearts NY,” that are to be sold exclusively at the new location.

Here’s a snippet from FWD:

The first collection, “Gucci Hearts NY,” is an ode to the city, where Gucci first opened its doors in 1953. Giannini has taken Gucci’s iconic webbing and its GG pattern canvas and reinterpreted them in white, shiny GG canvas complemented by bold red and royal blue stripes. The “Gucci Hearts NY” moniker, which uses Guccio Gucci’s iconic signature, has been irreverently stamped across the fabric.

Among the product offerings in this category are the Joy handbag, offered in three different sizes, as well as a silk scarf, priced from $320 to $770. A complementary collection of pieces has also been created in the form of a soft briefcase, toiletries bag, hard-sided luggage, a trolley suitcase, and a duffle bag in two sizes that ranges in price from $895 to $6,900….. keep reading

Designer Louis Vuitton bag price increase

Rumor has it that the irritating price increase is set for tomorrow morning. Which means if you want to save 4% (or whatever it will be,) you better act fast. Goyard Saint Honore Bag
In celebration of the 180th year in fashion, French malletier (trunkmaker) Goyard is releasing a special limited edition clutch called the Saint Honore Bag, named after the first Paris flagship store located at Saint Honore.

Brief fyi history about Goyard: La Maison Goyard was founded in 1853 in Paris. Edme Goyard worked as a malletier for a company then known as Maison Morel (founded in 1792), which his son, Francois, bought out in 1853. At that time, the company was renamed to what we know today as Goyard. At this time the Paris flagship store was located at Saint Honore (hence the name of the special edition designer bag). A couple years later the chevron canvas was created in 1892, and was traditionally produced in black and red.

The special edition Goyard clutch carries a steep retail price of $4100.

Goyard is sold in fewer than fifteen locations worldwide, including three proprietary boutiques in Paris, San Francisco’s Union Square and The Peninsula Hotel in Hong Kong.
