I don’t know about you, but I always get super excited whenever a new handbag designer hits the scene. I just love creative new ideas. And, being the environmentalist that I am, I especially love creative new ideas that come about in an eco-friendly manner. That is why I am so proud to present to you Muratori Designs (Luxury… with the World in Mind)! The company was founded by Julie Berard, who was able to align her love of fashion with her respect for nature in order to bring us a unique collection of luxury handbags. So not only are these handbags gorgeous, but they are made by a company that is environmentally conscious as well!

I do want to stress, however, that Muratori handbags are not vegan (like so many other eco-friendly handbags are). Instead, the company utilizes vegetable-tanned, chrome-free leathers. The production process for these leathers is much less harmful to the environment than other leathers. In addition, the linings of these handbags are made of either organic cotton or hemp. But it is also the little things that this company does to lessen their carbon footprint that I think are really cool. Whether it’s using only high efficiency light bulbs or purchasing electricity from renewable green energy sources, they are doing everything they can to help protect the environment. And, as if all of that wasn’t enough, Muratori also has a handbag recycling program!

Helen Lee Schifter and daughter Storey Schifter made a special appearance on this week’s episode of ‘Gossip Girl’! Helen and Storey appeared as guests of character Eleanor Waldorf to her fashion show. Helen is seen carrying the Haughton clutch in Bristol print from the L.A.M.B. Handbags Summer 2010 collection, which will be available at Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s and Zappos.com this May for $145.00.

In the beginning, I’d have to say I was not impressed with Diane Von Furstenberg‘s handbag efforts. They seemed like an afterthought. Perhaps someone told her she needed bags to complete her line and her attention was focused on her clothing line. Where was the impeccable and fabulous textile selections? Where was the pattern? We started to see the real Diane emerge with her Stephanie bags last year and now I believe she is fully focused on producing amazing handbags with the DVF vibe.

When I first saw this bag, I was blown away! Typically, I’m not about a lot of color in my handbags, let alone wild abstract patterns, but sometimes it is just done right and I can’t help myself…The DVF Sugar Print Shoulder Bag is just such a bag.

Here’s an example of old meets new. If you look into the history of the handbag, you’ll discover that the first noted handbag-like accessories arrived in a pouch-like shape that usually dangled off the waist with an opened top fastened by drawstring pulls. Fendi is an iconic label first started in 1925 and now owned by the LVMH Group. We are all familiar with their “Double F” logo. Their Peekabo bag is a divine classic and their baguettes in many a fashionable woman’s closet.

Something really caught my eye today while I was browsing around the Net-A-Porter website. I want you all to meet the Maison Martin Margiela Reflector-Embellished Leather Clutch! This is such an intriguing piece. From a distance, this rectangular clutch simply glistens with what appears to be a mosaic of ruby red stones. Wouldn’t that look gorgeous paired with a little black dress? But wait just a minute! There is definitely more here than meets the eye! That’s when I read the words “reflector-embellished” again.

To think that one of the fashion industries well known designers would be inspired by the game of good ole’ American football seems quite strange, but is indeed true. Attention football addicts/bagista’s, meet the Brady Football Clutch by Alexander Wang. So Wang was months short of making this clutches debut during the actual season, and although you might have no football parties to attend to at the moment, you can always add this to your ‘gear’ collection for next season.
