Derek Lam Isla Fringe Bag

Derek Lam is an American designer with fashion forward designs that are luxurious and wearable. His styles are sophisticated and modern with many featuring unique styling. His twelve years designing for Michael Kors have established his American design sense that brings new and interesting ideas to the fashion industry. While his designs have edge, they are not over the top.

The Isla Fringed Bag by Derek Lam is so unique and special, it will be a conversation starter wherever you go! It represents his design aesthetic of modern shapes, but the richness of the leather and the edgy boho vibe make perfect for a casual style that’s definitely “out-of-the-box”.

There are a couple of striking elements about this bag. The shape and the handle. The triangular shape is a very modern shape that we started to see in other contemporary designers. Here it is softened with long fringe and given some edge with studding all over the bag. It’s the perfect option for a maxi dress or denim.

The second fashion-forward aspect of this bag is the unique wristlet strap. It’s a bold size and provides a unique graphic shape to the bag. It looks like it would be very easy to use too! The soft Italian calf leather is a rich chocolate shade with cut-outs revealing studs. So, it’s a bit of a different take on studding, but I definitely like it!

Whipstitched suede highlights the seams of the bag with a long fringe at the bottom. The size versatile for lots of different uses and is 9”W x 8 ½”H x ½” D. Retails for $1190

Uhm, no. I’ve never really been a fan of the fringe trend though.

It looks really quite stunning on the runway, just how would it look in real life is another question. I’m trying to imagine.. what would I wear with this.

I love the design, just not that pebble/pimpley/ostrich.
