Alexander McQueen Clutches
The fashion world is abuzz with the current showing at the Met in NYC of Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty now through July 31. If you have an opportunity to see this amazing perspective on McQueen’s artistic creations, you should definitely plan to attend. McQueen was a genius beyond genius at creating edgy, gothic creations that are a marriage of dangerous visuals, meticulous construction and graceful beauty.
Much like McQueen’s fashion designs, the clutches have become an iconic handbag much like a classic Chanel, Bottega Veneta’s woven leathers or Birkin. These delightful creations are for the fashionista who wants a little bit of edge whether she is in a graceful grecian gown or dark and edgy couture. Each new version extends the McQueen design style, pushing the boundaries of accessories to art.
The Iris Plexiglass clutch is a beautiful invocation of McQueen’s gothic, graceful style. Evocative of crystal Lalique decorate vessels, this creation features a Swarovski crystal embellished skull in place of the stamen of the Iris adorning the clasp. I have to wonder of the symbolic meaning behind replacing the reproductive portion of the flower with the deathly symbol of a human skull… Life. Death. Beauty. Whether or not you are intrigued to explore the deeper meaning, you’ll be mesmerized by the overall beauty of this piece. A collector’s piece for $2,295.
Intricate detail are the hallmark of the Engraved Leaf and Thorn Box Clutch. Beautifully crafted goldtone metal features sculptured leaf motif with a thorny vine. I can’t place the species but I’m reminded of privet hedges with their controlled manicured sculptures. The thorny vine is almost an out of control element that is topped off with the McQueen skull and amber Swarovski crystals for eyes. Beauty, danger and intricate design all come together for a beautifully crafted piece. Additionally, this clutch features a brown leather pouch to hold your bits and bobs. A truly amazing piece for your collection. $3,295.
You decide. Art? Accessory? Both? The proud owner of these designs will not want to tuck them away in a dust bag on a closet shelf. They require presentation. I suggest a glass display case prominently displayed in your home for your friends to admire and desire. Check them out at: Alexander McQueen Boutique at NetaPorter!

I would love to own a McQ someday..
I want the plexi but it’s always sold out whenever I go on the site. I wonder if they only get one or two in at a time. I really want one.
I would say more art than accessory. I couldn’t image what to wear with one, just not my style. I would have so much more fun going to like a purse museum full of them, lol
A piece of art to be worn as a work of art. <3
These are so fantastic. I would love to have both.
They’re spectacular, but way too expensive. I can totally see why they retail for that much though, the detail is impeccable. Just I WISH they were less so I could afford one. hehe.
I adore McQueen’s clutches. I would kill to own just the classic all black one!
