Perforated Bag Trend ~ Summer 2012

While browsing the web looking at handbags (what else, right?) today, I started to notice something odd. There are a lot of perforated handbags floating around right now. Is this a new trend or something? If so, I don’t think I received the memo. I guess when I think about perforated bags, I flash back to Louis Vuitton’s perforated collection from a few years ago. There weren’t too many perforated bags to speak of after that. Now they are suddenly popping up everywhere. What gives? Oh well, I suppose I can give this trend a chance. After all, some of the styles might actually be cute. Just be careful though. I think this is a very tricky trend to pull off. Bright colors or bright white keep this look fresh. I picked out a couple pieces that I like, just so you can see what I’m talking about. Enjoy!

Furla Perforated Brooklyn – $498
You don’t see Furla too much anymore, but this designer really seems to be making a comeback. This shoulder bag is nice. I like how it is slouchy at the top, but it still has a somewhat structured bottom. The tiny perforations are perfect for someone wishing to try this trend without getting their feet too wet. The crisp white is great too, pairing nicely with just about anything.

Olympia Le-Tan Brozac Pill Box Bag

Olympia Le-Tan never ceases to amaze me. I was first introduced to her collection back in January when I stumbled across some of her novel clutches. So captivating were her creations, they left huge impressions in my mind. The hand embroidered details, the whimsy, the fact that they reminded me of Kate Spade’s novel clutches only 1000 times better… how could I not dream about them? Interestingly, others seem to share my sentiments. Olympia Le-Tan pieces pop up on Net-A-Porter fairly regularly, only to sell out within a few days (sometimes not even that). But what is this I see? It is what appears to be an Olympia Le-Tan piece, but it is different from what I’m used to seeing. Meet the Olympia Le-Tan Brozac Pill Box Bag!

Vanessa Hudgens Style: Name Her Mystery Bag

I have always loved Vanessa Hudgens’ style, especially when it comes to her handbag collection. Alexander Wang, Balenciaga, Botkier, JJ Winters… you name it. What I like most is how she has a mix of pieces. Some are higher end, while others are more moderate. The styles vary quite a bit too. Most recently though, she seems to have found a new love — Cleobella handbags. There are pictures floating around with her carrying several different styles from this designer. So naturally, when I stumbled across this picture of Vanessa on a romantic date with Austin Butler, I assumed the bag she was carrying for the occasion was by Cleobella as well.

Graphic Art Bags: Burberry & Alaia

This has been brewing for a little while now. I will see a black and white print handbag popping up here and there. I have even written about a few. At first I thought it was a “spring fling” of sorts. But it looks like the graphic art trend is going to stick around for at least the rest of the year. You know me though, I love things that draw you in. Handbags are so much more fun that way! So naturally, I’m finding myself liking this trend. I love the bold black and white stripes. But I’m also loving the geometric prints. They are so tantalizing, almost hypnotic! Plus they look great paired with solids… no matter what the color. Below are a couple of pieces that have particularly caught my eye. Check them out!

Burberry Prorsum Herringbone Raffia Clutch
Graphic art and raffia? Who knew? This lovely clutch is from Burberry Prorsum’s 2012 Cruise Collection. I love the flap closure and its raw edges. The print is a bit busy, but I think the black leather belt grounds the look nicely. Perfect for those semi-dressy occasions where you don’t want to look too stuffy.
