Balenciaga Perforated Polka Dot City Arena Bag

Every now and then around this time of the year a handful of designers come out with their own interpretation of the perforated bag. Never before have I seen it done to a classic bag like the City.

Check out the newest from Balenciaga, the Perforated Polka Dot City Arena Bag.

My first thought anytime I see a perforated bag, is well, sure it may look pretty rad but will my stuff fall out? Like the little things in my bag, can they fall through the little holes? Well you don’t really have to worry about that with this bag because the designers over at Balenciaga created a removable matching lambskin leather pouch for the interior.

Balenciaga Raffia Woven Shopper Tote

Beach season is just around the corner and a lot of designers are already churning out straw totes by the dozens. They are literally popping up everywhere! Balenciaga, of course, is no exception. They too have a straw tote that is ready for a little fun in the sun. Meet the Balenciaga Raffia Woven Shopper Tote!

Now this is not the first straw tote Balenciaga has ever produced, there have been others in the past. Still… I have a hard time wrapping my head around a Balenciaga bag that isn’t made of super squishy leather. I mean, that is what this designer is known for. So seeing one made of straw just isn’t doing it for me. I like the look of this bag in general. The contrasting weave of natural and lavender raffia is very pleasing to the eye.

Bag Color Trend: Mellow Yellow

Winter has just begun, but the fashion world is already thinking about spring. Every year, it seems there is a new IT color. For Spring 2012, I’m going to guess that color is Lemon Yellow! Why? My first clue was the fact that online shops are already littered with this sunny hue. Clothing, shoes, accessories… you name it. I’m not sure if I would be daring enough to wear a dress in this color. However, I do happen to think it looks dashing on a handbag. In fact, I have a Treesje Mini Asher in Lemon and I absolutely adore it. It’s bright, fun, and adds a little pop to those dreary winter months. Plus it looks so cheery with more colorful pieces during the spring and summer! So it looks like I’ll be carrying that bag with pride this year, even though it has already been well loved! But what about this new stuff I mentioned earlier? If you’re wanting to take part in the color trend, you should definitely check it out. Here are a couple of pieces from the current selection!

Bottega Veneta Intrecciato Bag in Sunset

Balenciaga Glaze City

I have been dreaming of a Balenciaga bag. I was thinking maybe a First, since I like a more manageable size when it comes to handheld styles. Unfortunately, it will probably have to wait until I am done with school. A graduation gift, perhaps? Hmm, maybe more like a congrats on your new job gift! In the mean time though, I do find it fun to look at the latest creations from this designer. My favorites? The various reinventions of those classic motorcycle styles! Take a look at this one, for example. Meet the Balenciaga Glaze Gold City Bag!

Balenciaga Madison Avenue

There’s a rumor out there that Balenciaga is moving to Madison Avenue, Manhattan in New York City.

Earlier this week a spokesman for the company confirmed that the house, which has a store on West 22nd Street, will open a second Balenciaga shop in Manhattan in early 2012. Check back for more details. The final word will be out in September.

Balenciaga and Spain Tote. Win It!

Balenciaga (and Spain) is in San Francisco! I went opening day and it was a pretty fantastic experience, for sure recommend going if you’re in the area. The exhibit is still going on now through July 4th at de Young Museum, located smack dab in the middle of Golden Gate Park, San Francisco.

The Balenciaga and Spain exhibition features over a hundred haute couture garments, hats, and headdresses designed by Cristóbal Balenciaga (1895–1972), including illustrates of Balenciaga’s expansive creative vision, which incorporated references to Spanish art, bullfighting, dance, regional costume, and the pageantry of the royal court and religious ceremonies. It’s pretty breathtaking.

Balenciaga Crescent

I haven’t had the pleasure of seeing this actual style in person yet, it’s exclusively available at MyTheresa and just not sold here in Seattle. (Barney’s and Nordstrom’s carry a great selection, just not this bag in particular). Although I’m sure it’s as fantastic as every other creation from the Balenciaga workshop.

Balenciaga Tassel Bobble Keychain

The Tassel Bobble by Balenciaga! They call it a keychain, but as you can see in the picture it looks pretty darn fabulous attached to one of your favorite Balenciaga bags. This chunky piece is designed with dozens of folded over leather strands, and if that wasn’t enough, the design also features a couple dangling little strands of Balenciaga’s signature long tassels. And to top it off, Balenciaga’s signature hardware including a non-functional zipper. The zipper is for looks only, but wouldn’t it be much more fabulous if it was some sort of mini pouch. There would be some function there rather than just looks. Still cute though.
