In the world of retail and fashion, I imagine there’s nothing more annoying than having your hard-set ideas and work get snubbed by a poor excuse of a replica. This not only affects the person behind the work, but the consumer who willingly spends on the factual item, expecting to carry a one of a kind piece. I was picking up some beauty items at my local mall yesterday and I spotted this handbag resting on the arm of a mannequin at a nearby store. I was in awe and quick to note the strong comparisons to a couture designer I am much familiar with.

Bebe calls this handbag the Perforated Trimmed Satchel; Bagista’s know this style as Balenciaga’s Covered Giant City.

The most obvious comparisons by far is the identical satchel shape with the top handle design, the leather covered studs, and the detachable flat shoulder strap. Also note the overall presentation of details such as the zipper pocket up front, reinforced stitching, and if you pay close attention, this satchel is perforated throughout its edges as well. We expected a poor inspiration from Forever 21, not you Bebe!

With the economy in the current shape that it is in, one can’t help but want to save money. And with so many stores having sales or websites hosting sample sales, how can a shopaholic possibly resist? But there is another way to save money that perhaps some people haven’t thought to consider… and that is buying pre-loved handbags and accessories. Why pre-loved? Well, for one, you can often find good deals on items that never go on sale (e.g. Louis Vuitton). You can also find discontinued styles and hard-to-find collector’s pieces. And the best part is, something only has to be used once or twice to be called “used”. This means that you have a pretty good chance of finding something that is practically new without the “new” price tag. Love it!

So where does one find a good selection of pre-loved handbags and accessories? Ebay was once a hot spot for used luxury items. Unfortunately, however, with all the fakes out there people have become wary of the things offered for sale in this virtual marketplace. This is such a shame because there are still trustworthy sellers out there that have wonderful deals to offer, the trick is learning how to spot them. I love that because you can see for yourself exactly what condition the item is in. From my experience, their customer service is pretty good and their shipping is extremely prompt.

It’s no secret that Avelle, the new Bag Borrow or Steal has a largest inventory of designer goods available for rent via the Internet. Their collection is awesome, and their stuff for sale is too. So the items up for grabs are semi-used, depending on the stated description, but most of these goods have prices that are fairly reasonable for their condition. I was browsing along their sale selection and I ran across this Giant Hardware Hobo bag by Balenciaga. Noir leather and the chunky silver giant hardware collaborate and create this stunning everyday bag. Personally, I haven’t tried the hobo style out myself, but I suppose it would make a great shoulder piece, definitely something I would love to add to my collection. I love my city, but even the crook of my arm won’t mind a rest with a more comfortable shoulder bag, as this appears to be. Here’s some exciting news for you Balenciaga fanatics out there. While browsing along one of my favorite websites, I spotted this pretty among the clutter of discounted designer goods over at BlueFly (dot com). All right, so it’s still costs a pretty penny, but we’re talking about one serious discount here. European couture name Balenciaga, is known for its lavish goods. A majority of its accessories sports gorgeous treated chevre leather in a variety of textures and colors. The designer names’ most popular line hands down has got to be the motorcycle line, and in more detail, the gorgeous motorcycle handbags. As many of you bagista’s have probably seen by now, the black handbag pictured above is not part of the brands most common line. In case you haven’t ran into this style, may I introduce to you the Cherche Top Handle Tote by Balenciaga. As I look towards my 2007 black motorcycle city (which lays on a stack of Harpers Bazaar magazines found on my bedroom floor), I hardly find any resemblances at all. The only similar feature found on both styles would have to be that leather-bound mirror, which I find so incredibly useful. Different features found on the Cherche Top Handle include, pebbled leather versus distressed motorcycle leather, and most importantly, a structured silhouette versus a supple body. When Balenciaga first presented the new floral printed handbag line, I thought they were perfect and totally fun for the warmer months out of the year, Spring and Summer. Also, I thought it was wonderful how Balenciaga created some designs that were different from their traditional distressed leather bags. So, if you’re a fan too, you can now snag one of these flower printed beauties over at Bluefly for about 20% off the retail price, which marks down to $1,276.

This particular style shown above is the Giant Brief bag with SGH (silver giant hardware) details. I was actually never into the GH, but recently I haven’t been able to keep my eyes off of it! And I especially love the SGH with white leather trim surrounding the orange, pink, and green garden of printed flowers. This bag would definitely get noticed and would certainly add vibrance and summer fun to any outfit. Perforated Balenciaga Bags
The Balenciaga Motorcycle Bags are mainly known for their wonderfully distressed leather, the limited seasonal shades they come in, and hardware details. But this season, the design house of Balenciaga has added a few new twists to their handbags, with one being an outline of perforations. Pictured above are two perforated bags from the upcoming fall season. When I first saw these, they instantly appealed to me. I thought these little decorative perforations were a great pattern to accent the leather with. I think Bal made a good move by making these subtle and not over the top.

However, if I was going to finally get a Balenciaga City bag, would I buy a perforated piece? I thought about it and decided that even though I admire Bal’s creativity, I think I would still stick with the traditional bags. I have a feeling that these might be a little on the trendy side, and that is why I wouldn’t actually purchase one. And besides, you can’t go wrong with a classic Balenciaga! Anyways, as far as pricing goes, I’m not exactly sure what these are marked at. Though I’m sure they’re higher then the traditional Bal bags.

For the past couple of days I’ve been keeping an eye out for purple hued handbags ever since I learned how popular the shade is going to be this coming fall. I keep on asking myself whether a bag with such a rich color as purple would last me all year long or just for the season. I also wonder if spending a couple of hundred or so to satisfy my purple crave is the way to go, or if splurging on a premium designer name is totally necessary for such a great colored bag. Who knows! But I do know that the infamous Italian name Balenciaga carries this great violet bag.

Right now over at BlueFly, Balenciaga’s “Polo” Tote (in purple) is marked down 20% from $1310 to $1048. Now there’s one great “splurge” find. As Balenciaga is known for its amazing distressed or buttery-soft leather, this bag is no exception. Double chained straps and an open top for easy access make the “Polo” tote a great everyday bag. The limited amount of silver-toned hardware found throughout the tote compliments the bags “colour” perfectly. This Balenciaga is one of the many examples of purple handbags I would definitely splurge on, and I also know that this beauty won’t sit for long on the sales rack!
