Betsey Johnson has never been one of my favorite designer’s. In fact, most of her design’s always struck me as odd, or perhaps maybe even tacky. I had made myself believe that I hated Betsey Johnson’s designs and after that I pretty much never paid attention to anything she did.

When I came across the Betsey Johnson “Betsey’s Frame Satchel”, I knew my previous misconceptions of her design’s were wrong. I instantly fell in love with the “Betsey’s Frame Satchel” and could even picture myself wearing it.

The “Betsey’s Frame Satchel” is a classic handbag that any woman could wear. It actually looks like a bag that came out of a Juicy Couture catalog. It’s little, cute and can be worn either day or night. The handbag does come in two different colors: black and blush (pink), but I think I love the bag more in black. For one thing black goes with anything, but it also is much easier to match up clothes with than pink. I will admit though, the handbag in pink is adorable and actually makes the ruffles pop out more than the black version does. The black version of the bag does seem to camouflage the ruffle, making that the only “con” of it.

Measurements of the handbag are 15″ wide x 10″ high, which gives you enough room to carry a wallet, sunglasses, cell phone, and makeup inside. The best feature of the handbag is the magnetic closure. No matter where you are, just one little snap and your handbag is closed.

The Betsey Johnson “Betsey’s Frame Satchel” can be purchased at Zappos for $355, which I consider to be reasonable for a cute, designer bag. If you don’t own any Betsey Johnson bags, then this would be a perfect bag to a collection with!

Betsey Johnson Star Wristlet Purse
Leave it to Betsey Johnson and her creativity to design unusual pieces such as this wristlet. It’s called the star wristlet, and its name is pretty self-explanatory. I’ve seen the funkiest accessories coming from Miss. Betsey, including electric guitars and even Betsey Johnson Lips Wristlets. Awkward stuff, but I can’t deny the fact that they’re fun. I can’t really imagine getting much use out of this piece; then again, it’s not a must-have in my book. I could see myself accessorizing with this piece for a night out in town or to some party where carrying my house (and more) isn’t really necessary. Then again, with 5” x 5” x 2” dimensions, this wristlet is totally useless to me as I wouldn’t be able to cram my own cell phone in there! Too small for my phone and way limited room for my cosmetics means that I won’t be wishing upon this star anytime soon. Plus, the $78 price tag is nowhere near convincing. Hmm… if they were to hit the sales rack, maybe I’d pick one up to have as a coin purse, but other than that, it’s a nay for me. What’s your input on these tiny leather goods? Betsey Johnson Lips Wristlet
How would you like a great, big ol’ smooch? Introducing the Betsey Johnson Lips Wristlet. It is a metallic leather wristlet shaped like a big pair of lips. To be honest, when I first laid my eyes on this wristlet, I busted out laughing. Betsey Johnson is known for her wild, weird, and just plain over-the-top designs. But, come on, a pair of lips? Who would seriously want to carry this around? I can safely say I wouldn’t. But there just might be some hope yet for this little wristlet. What if it wasn’t used as a wristlet, but as a little makeup bag instead? I think it could be pretty cute if used in this manner, especially for a younger person (a much younger person). Plus I doubt anybody could miss a giant pair of lips inside their handbag, so at least it would be easy to spot when you’re looking for your lip gloss.

The Betsey Johnson Lips Wristlet measures 6″ x 3″ x 2″ and it comes with a detachable wrist strap. It is available in Metallic Red with gunmetal hardware. It retails for $78, which I feel is a bit much for a novelty wristlet, err… makeup bag.

Betseyville by Betsey Johnson ‘Call Me, Betsey’ Phone Satchel
For designer Betsey Johnson’s latest Spring accessory season, she released this ‘Call Me, Betsey’ Phone Satchel. Breathing to life the infamous 1970’s Telephone novelty bag, but in a more cartoon-ish colored rendition. Sorry guys, but unlike the 70’s novelty phone which could call out from any source by plugging in to any jack, this Betsey telephone bag is just your basic novelty purse. But hey, that’s what cellphones are for.

It should be no surprise (since I broadcast it everytime I speak about BJ,) I find Betsey Johnson’s designs to be either a hit or a total miss. Her bags are definitely bold and eye-catching, but no way would I carry such a bag.

Tell me what you guys think of this Betsey Johnson ‘Call Me’ phone bag. Or Betsey Johnson designs in general.

Steve Madden “Studio 54″ Embellished vs Betsey Johnson Jewel Clutch

You can’t deny it – The Steve Madden “Studio 54″ Embellished shoulder bag is a copy of the Betsey Johnson Jewel Crystal Rhinestone Clutch.

Lets face it, there are two ways of look at this, either Steve Madden lacks creativity or just so happens he had the same purse-vision as Betsey Johnson – what a cowinkydink. I mean nothing is wrong with a brand occasionally inspiring their designs after another label, but when the bag looks beyond inspired and appears most obviously to be identically replicated, that’s just plain ridiculous.

Right now there isn’t a Betsey Johnson Crystal Rhinestone Clutch listed on eBay, but there are a few other styles available. Like the Heart Rhinestone Crystal version which was produced a short time after the original circular crystal design. Oh and one more thing – I am warning you the hobo-style is super heavy. So like after a long night out I will guarantee that your back will hurt the next day.

Also the similar price range is interesting. Right now the Steve Madden “Studio 54″ embellished synthetic leather (aka plastic) shoulder bag, is on sale at Macy’s department store marked down to $50.99, or you can scope out the virtual shelves of eBay to score a leather Betsey Johnson Crystal Rhinestone Clutch, on sale for around the same price.
