In the late 1850’s 21 year old Thomas Burberry, opened up a specialty ‘outdoorwear emporium’ for sportsmen, at the time it was referred to as “Burberrys of London” by many. Then a couple decades later, Burberry opened a shop in the Haymarket, London, which still exists and is the site of Burberry’s corporate headquarters.
Burberry is well-known for their signature black, white, and red haymarket check pattern as well as the Equestrian Knight Logo, both which have become widely copied trademarks by counterfeiters.

When I get a new bag, I look forward to breaking it in with wear. I also stay cautious of stains, scratches, and water; I’m pretty sure I’m not alone. I own a particular Coach bag that I used for quite some time a couple of years ago, and being made of white cotton, it was simply a dirt magnet. I ignored the flaws of stains and dirt, but pretty soon, I realized it was time to retire it. Nobody wants to carry a bag that looks beyond used or ancient, but over at the House of Burberry, they obviously have a different outlook.
Meet the Burberry Raffia Shopper. It’s distressed, deconstructed, and made of textured raffia swatches. At first, I thought it was reptile skin swatches, but instead, it appears to be small weaves of leather. I admire the artistic concept of the shopper, but other than that, I won’t be running to any Burberry shop to grab this piece. As a brand new bag it already appears in bad condition, I can only imagine how it would look with age. Ladies what’s your input on this Burberry, do you like this?

Colorful nylon shoppers have landed at Nordstroms and they come spring/summer ready! Presented to us by the House of Burberry, take a look at their latest designs. I wouldn’t call myself a fan of the nylon bag, unless it’s nylon on a diaper bag or on a really bad kick-around bag. They just aren’t my style as I find them too wobbly and cheap, not to mention most are pretty boring. Unless pleats, bold colors, and lot’s of leather trim are present, I’ll pass up on nylon bag, anytime.
Wouldn’t you agree that the structures of these totes seem pretty familiar? Double thin shoulder straps and draw strings at the sides to increase and decrease capacity… does Neverfull ring a bell? A clean silhouette makes this perfect for everyday wear, and you can pick your choice of nylon color from simple white and birch to bold red and pretty lavender.
Ladies, what’s your input on this Burberry? What about on Nylon handbags in general? For $195, you can add this shopper to your collection. Although that price is still pretty steep, it’s nice to know that Burberry isn’t over exaggeratingly asking for more.

When a designer starts straying away from everything that could possibly define them, whether it be a trademark feature or signature print, it is often viewed as a negative thing. But when it comes to Burberry, this couldn’t be farther from the truth. It seems nowadays, the less a Burberry bag looks like a Burberry bag, the better! Take for example the Burberry Leather Dasset Shoulder Bag. The soft leather, the slouchy shape, the simple style… it’s all good! Plus I love the drawstring closure, it helps to emphasize the slouchiness of this bag even further. Yep, this bag looks nothing like your typical Burberry bag, that’s why I like it so much. Oddly enough, this isn’t the first time I have spotted (and written about) a Burberry bag that didn’t look like a Burberry bag either. So kudos to you, Burberry! Keep up the excellent work! Now if any of you bagistas out there are interested in the Burberry Leather Dasset Shoulder Bag, you can pick one up at Saks Fifth Avenue. It measures 17″ x 12″ x 7″, comes with a removable messenger strap, and retails for a whooping $1,495!

Burberry Ruched Ribbon Leather Hobo
Burberry’s Resort 2009 Collection is here! Hot off the presses, these new styles are unlike the typical Burberry styles that we have come to know and love (or not love!). Take this bag I have pictured above. It is called the Burberry Ruched Ribbon Leather Hobo. The ruched ribbons of leather give this bag a very feminine feel. It’s like having a lace bag without the lace. Personally, I’m not really sure what to think of this bag. I certainly like the idea of using texture to add interest to a bag. But when I look at this bag, I have visions of those ruffled blouses that where “in” a few years ago. Does anyone remember those? They went from HOT to NOT in what seemed like a millisecond. The color, however, might have something to do with it. I think this bag would look a hundred times better if it was in Black. The Dark Taupe Pink just doesn’t do it for me. Plus the price tag on this baby is scary. Perhaps this one needs to hit the sale section first!

Burberry Leather Satchel Bag
I was wandering around on the Nordstroms website today when I stumbled across this handbag you see pictured above. It is a new style from Burberry for Fall 2008 and it is simply referred to as “Leather Satchel”. How does everyone feel about this bag? Personally, I find this bag rather attractive. The funny thing is, it has been a very long time since I last saw a Burberry bag that I liked. But this bag doesn’t really look like a Burberry when you look at if from a distance, so perhaps that is why I actually like it. I love the smooth, pebbled leather and the inverted pleat in the center adds just the right amount of interest. The style is both sophisticated and elegant with it’s curvy, yet simple, shape. Best of all, this bag doesn’t scream Burberry (No Burberry check here!). The only thing that gives it away is the discrete Burberry crest in the form on a metal plaque. So if you are looking for a classic style that you can wear year round, this Burberry Leather Satchel would make an excellent choice.
The Burberry Leather Satchel is constructed of soft, calfskin leather. It measures 19″ x 10″ x 10″ and the double handles have an 8″ drop. The interior features zippered, cell phone, and PDA pockets. It is currently available in Tan, but I wonder if it doesn’t come in Black as well.

Gossip Girl Fashion
Gossip Girl is one of the hottest new shows on TV. It could be because it is full of young, hot, rich New York City kids. It could also be because they have one of the hottest most chic wardrobes on TV. These kids turn a normal school girl outfit into a runway hit. These aren’t your average teenagers. Instead of Wet Seal and Forever 21 these kids go to school in Chanel, Dior, and Burberry.
The first picture features Blake Lively, who plays Serena van der Woodsen, in a chic outfit and the Burberry Warrior Bag. This leather shoulder bag features a dark silver stud design. Burberry Check Canvas Hobo
Check out the Check Canvas Hobo by the House of Burberry. This hobo caught my attention for the fact that it sports Burberry’s signature check print, but in a not-so-revealing way. Instead of being dressed up in Burberry’s well recognized beige, black, white and red check print, this hobo is adorned in oversized grey and black plaid on a white canvas background. A strong detail found on this check hobo is the chocolate brown leather trim, which gives this bag a nice sophisticated look. Gold plated metal is the hardware of choice and is found throughout the hobo, this detail accomplishes its job by enhancing the appearance of the bag. My favorite feature would have to be the logo engraved cube shaped leather string adjuster, which alters the opening of the handbag. I also like spacious and organized bags, and this Check hobo is definitely one. Inside, you can find a center zip divider, an interior slip, cell phone and PDA pocket dividers, pretty cool huh?! Although extra space slots and pockets can already be seen in many designer bags, I think it’s time for all designers to adopt this “extra space� idea. With dimensions of 18� x 12� x 4.5�, this extra large bag totally gets my vote! So what do you bagistas think, would you wear this Burberry?
