Accessories for Prom: Evening Bags and More!

Oh my gosh, I cannot believe prom is almost here! I was pretty much unaware of the fact that it is now March until I stumbled across display after display of prom dresses at the mall the other day. Where has the time gone? Oh well, it was actually nice seeing all of the pretty prom dresses for this year. It brings back some fond memories for me. Hehe… I was even tempted to try some on. You know, just for fun! And I hear short prom dresses (like the one pictured above) are in this year. Not only are they super cute, but also super easy on the wallet. I bet many of the mothers I saw out shopping with their daughters were delighted to see these less expensive styles. But all of this reminiscing about the good ol’ days got me to thinking about (you guessed it) accessories. After all, every girl needs the right accessories to complete her dream look for prom. So I thought it would be fun to write a blog post about accessories for prom, just for all you high school gals out there! Below you’ll find some of my favorites. Julie K Robin Tote

Graduation is fast approaching and many promising new people will soon be entering the workforce. And what does a college grad need to get their career off to an organized start? A nice leather work tote, of course! So if you’re looking for a great new work bag, either for yourself or for someone you love, then check out the Julie K Robin Tote.

This extra large leather tote would be perfect for work. It is simple, but it also has a little bit of spunk to it (something I hear celebs such as Angelina Jolie and Drew Barrymore really like about this designer’s work). I think it would be perfect for a young person that doesn’t want to look too stuffy in the workplace.

I really like the richly textured (washed) leather and the tiny square studs placed at the base of the handles. And there’s no need to worry about carrying a heavy load because the Julie K Robin Tote comes complete with a detachable shoulder strap. This tote is available in a variety of colors too. But if I may make a suggestion, go for the red. It would add a nice pop of color to an otherwise basic wardrobe.

Anyone have a pool party or any other sun events planned soon? A couple of more days until my Spring Break officially kicks in as I’m anticipating some rest and relaxation under the warm South Padre Island sun. Would You Wear This? Stalo Markides PVC Feather Bag

Wow, ladies! I can’t believe I am saying this, but I am absolutely speechless! I just stumbled across this interesting-looking bag by a designer called Stalo Markides. It is called the Stalos Markides PVC Feather Bag. I have never heard of this designer before and my efforts to dig up some real info on her were all in vain. Even the official website didn’t have much to offer me! I can tell you this though, Stalo Markides takes great pride in bringing life to her pieces and turning them into works of art.

Work of art? Perhaps. But would you wear this piece? The Stalos Markides PVC Feather Bag is constructed of green patent (you guessed it) PVC material. The exterior of the bag is adorned with translucent pieces of PVC that are cut to look like feathers. The tiny little evening bag comes complete with an extra long chain strap, perfect for wearing across the body. This is one very different-looking little bag! But would you call it a work of art? Or would you think someone had a gigantic green cicada hanging from their dress (think Jurassic Park)? I will leave it up to you ladies to decide!

Free People Recycled Leather Satchel

The concept of a recycled leather handbag was first introduced to me when I wrote about the Novella Royal Mister Stud Bowler Bag back in August.

It was this LA-based designer that made me think of eco-friendly handbags in a whole new (and insanely creative) way. So I suppose it shouldn’t have come as a surprise to me that there would be other companies wishing to jump on the recycled leather bandwagon. Novella Royale may not have been the first designer to think of this wonderful idea, but they certainly will not be the last!

Now the only question left to ask is: Which company will it be? Well in case you haven’t guessed already, the latest company to get in on the recycled leather trend is Free People.

Introducing the Free People Recycled Leather Satchel! This lovely leather satchel is perfect for everyday use, whether you’re out shopping for the day or off to the office. I really love the clean lines and simple flap closure. Each bag in made in Canada from recycled vintage leather jackets and features hemp twill lining. I guess that means this bag is eco-friendly inside AND out! So if you’re looking for a handbag that will bring a little good karma your way, then I definitely recommend giving this beautiful handbag a second look!

DEAL: Novella Royale Mister Bag

Architectural fashion seems to be a hot trend right now, and when I came across the Novella Royale “Mister Studded” Tote I was in awe. It’s not a bag I would personally buy to add to my collection but it’s pretty interesting to look at.

What really caught my eye was not what the bag looked like, but the hidden features about it. The “Mister Studded” Tote was handmade in the U.S.A. from recycled leather.

I always think it’s pretty noble when a fashionista buys a bag that’s made in our country. When the purse is made in the U.S.A. we can always be certain that a union worker made it and is getting paid a decent wage. The fact that it’s handmade makes it even more awesome because it’s not very often that you can find a bag, other than the Hermes Birkin, that is.

The only drawback about this bag, is that I don’t think just anyone can wear it. You have to have a particular funky fashion sense to sport this purse around. If Lady Gaga wasn’t rich or famous, I could see someone like her carrying this bag around. Overall,I’d have to say it’s a pretty cool looking artsy bag.

You can purchase the Novella Royale “Mister Studded” Tote at Shop Bop for $408.80. I would never pay that much for this bag, but being that it’s handmade in the U.S.A. I can understand the costly price.

Inge Christopher “St. Petersburg” Clutch

I love going out at night and I must look as fashionable as I can when I do. I always have to match from head to toe, and my night wardrobe is usually all black. If there is one thing I hate, it’s having to carry one of my regular large bags when I go out for the night. The last thing I want to do is lug around a huge purse when I’m at a club or lounge. Evening bags or clutches always come in handy when you’re hitting up the town at night, and not to mention they always looks more stylish with an evening outfit.

The Inge Christopher “St. Petersburg” Metal Frame Clutch instantly caught my eye. It kind of reminded me of an Alexander McQueen box clutch minus the price tag and skull. This clutch is perfect for going out at night. First, it’s black and it can match just about any outfit you wear. Second, it’s so small that you just carry your essentials with you without having to carry around a large purse all night.

If you don’t want to carry the “St. Petersburg” around as a clutch, you can easy take out the chain that’s hidden inside. It’s always a plus when you have the option to use a clutch two different ways.

The Inge Christopher “St. Petersburg” Metal Frame Clutch can be purchased at Nordstrom for $235. For a clutch this gorgeous, the price is worth it! It’s not everyday you can find an evening clutch, that’s this stunning, for such a reasonable price!

Pick your hobo: Foley + Corinna Cargo Bag vs. Indah Hayden Mini Hobo

If you check out the ‘What’s New’ handbag section over at Shopbop, you’re bound to see a couple of neutrals, some splashes of color and then these two crescent shaped hobos presented by two different parties.

We usually put handbags head-to-head when they resemble each other down to the bone, although these two don’t, we can gain some responses on which of the two would make your pick.

Foley + Corinna presents the navy blue, all pebbled leather hobo bag. It arrives oversized and with three bubbly pockets up front, you’re sure to keep organized and this bag extra neat. The single, thick leather shoulder strap looks as comfortable as it seems to carry this hobo, although its shape is unique indeed, I’m not too convinced that this would rank as a favorite in my collection.

Don’t let its name fool you as the Hayden Mini Hobo by Indah arrives quite large. Again the funky slouch style is found on this hobo except this version arrives in printed denim material. I’m not the biggest fan of denim handbags, but for some reason, I don’t hate this look completely.

Colors are cool, comfort is visible, plus the $85 price tag is quite reasonable versus the $495 price tag of the Cargo Bag.
