In the beginning, I’d have to say I was not impressed with Diane Von Furstenberg‘s handbag efforts. They seemed like an afterthought. Perhaps someone told her she needed bags to complete her line and her attention was focused on her clothing line. Where was the impeccable and fabulous textile selections? Where was the pattern? We started to see the real Diane emerge with her Stephanie bags last year and now I believe she is fully focused on producing amazing handbags with the DVF vibe.
When I first saw this bag, I was blown away! Typically, I’m not about a lot of color in my handbags, let alone wild abstract patterns, but sometimes it is just done right and I can’t help myself…The DVF Sugar Print Shoulder Bag is just such a bag.
Red, orange, yellow and vibrant blues contrast against black in animal, floral and other abstract designs burst from the canvas in playful patterns. DVF was wise enough to ground it with the neutral suede double hands with 8 1/2″ drop and interesting wraparound adjustable buttoned strap. The embroidery, beading, sequins accents on the front and back provide a ton of textural interest. As a person with more subtle and classic tastes, in this case, more is better! Somehow, if one of these attributes had been left out, the bag would not have been the complete showstopper that it is.
In addition to massive visual appeal, this bag is incredibly roomy with a 14″ x 8″ x 6″ size. The inside features a zippered pocket and three patch pockets plus a huge bonus – a removable suede zippered pouch! This little pouch is perfect to keep those items you want to transition from bag to bag. There is just so much to love in this wonderful new bag by DVF. Let’s hope she starts putting this kind of attention into her shoe line. I can only dream!
