Rebecca Minkoff School Boy Satchel

Black and white has really been creeping into the world of handbags lately. I will see one here and there, but they have definitely become more frequent these last few months. It should come as no surprise then that Rebecca Minkoff has decided to get in on some of the action. After all, she has always been pretty good at keeping up with what is hot (and what is not). Which styles did she choose to have a black and white rendition in? One of them is the Rebecca Minkoff School Boy Satchel! What an excellent choice!

Burberry Raffia Whipstitch Tote

image: burberry.com
Burberry’s inner artisan is revealed as they welcome the warmer climates with their Whipstitch Bag, a true Prorsum beauty. The whipstitch / woven feature is yearned by many during the spring and summer season, along with the color-blocking trend that is highly popularized right now. Fuse these two trends together and you’ll get this unusual yet colorful collaboration that is sun ready.

It’s obvious that this isn’t your typical Burberry accessory as the Houses classic plaid is visibly absent, but the raffia blend offers a distinct choice of palette. This tote can be effortlessly paired with casual or dress attire, and with the light to dark hue variation, you can carry this shoulder bag throughout the year.

KARL Lagerfeld ink blot Tote

When I first glanced at the bag you see here, I wasn’t really sure what I was looking at. This is a bit embarrassing, but I thought it was some sort of “ink blot” design. You know, like the ink blot tests a psychiatrist might use. Then I realized this was a bag from Karl Lagerfeld’s new line that just debuted (and is being exclusively offered) at Net-A-Porter. Haha!

The new line, appropriately titled KARL, is all about downtown style. KARL offers a great selection of clothing, shoes, and handbags. The best part? Mr. Lagerfeld has brought us all of this at a price everyone can afford. Most items fall within the $100 to $400 range!

House of YiliY by yilin chen

As I get older, my fashion tastes are starting to lean toward the more classy, sophisticated and timeless pieces. Before our economy took a dive I always bought handbags I loved, for no reason at all. I didn’t care if they matched my wardrobe or not, if I liked a purse I bought it. Now I’m more sensible, for me to purchase a handbag these days I have to convince myself I will carry it non-stop. Being able to use a handbag year round is a big factor for me today or I simply won’t purchase it.

When I heard about new designer Yiliy, I was instantly intrigued. The name was catchy and definitely sounded different. Then as soon as I looked at the gallery of handbags the “Le Matin” instantly caught my eye. Black, golden hardware, and classy, which we all know is my favorite kind of handbag. I could totally envision myself using this handbag constantly. It’s simplicity at it’s best. Nothing I love more than a beautiful handbag that’s not too trendy but has the ability to be iconic. Rebecca Minkoff started her career off with the lovely “Morning After Bag” which is now one of the most sought after handbags in the fashion scene. I really believe, the “Le Matin” will be the bag in Yilin Chen’s collection that will be iconic.

Deysa’s Favorite Bag Designer of 2011: Tory Burch

This year sure went by fast and along with it; I take with me a mental collage of some of my favorite leather goods and accessories from throughout the seasons. Us bagista’s know which designers were hot, which weren’t, the ones who drastically emerged and the ones who had the nerve to copy some other House’s original designs. When it comes to my favorite designer of 2011, my preference goes to the designs of someone who perhaps isn’t classified as being a Couture House and to one who carries accessories ranging in different styles, colors, price ranges and personalities.

Diane von Furstenberg Sporty Drew Satchel

I’ve known about Diane von Furstenberg for quite some time now. I didn’t fall in love with her designs until I discovered her luggage collection. I’ll be honest I found her luggage sets at discount stores but I was in awe of how beautiful they were! I literally bought a $350+ bag for $70! Not to shabby, especially for the quality. I still have the carry on bag today and it still looks brand new!

Another love of mine is Ms. Furstenberg’s handbags and clothes. Anything designed by this amazing fashion house always screams elegance, sophistication and beauty. When I came across the “Sporty Drew” Satchel my mouth dropped. It was another stunning design by Diane von Furstenberg and I love it. Ironically, I read this morning that “Tango Tangerine” was going to be the “it” color next year. Then I stumbled upon the “Sporty Drew” which is available in a color that is almost identical to the new “it” color. Coincidence? I think not!

Helmut Lang Primal Bag

When the heck did this happen? I totally must have missed something here. We all know Helmut Lang, right? That lovely fashion label that was relaunched by Michael and Nicole Colovos a few years back? You know, the one with the neutral tones and edgy, yet minimalistic designs. Yes, that one! Well, apparently the company doesn’t just have a clothing line anymore. Somewhere along the line, a handbag collection was added. Hmm, wonder how I missed that one. But hey, this is certainly not a bad thing. Just check out this Helmut Lang Primal Two-Tone Leather Satchel! If this bag is any indication of what is to come, then I am definitely looking forward to seeing more of Helmut Lang in the world of handbags!

Bag Snob x DKNY: Out Now + My Very Own Treasure!

You have got to love the power of the social networking! It seemed like just yesterday, I was typing up one of the juiciest accounts to hit both fashion world and handbag editorials. Today, the collection has arrived! Let’s recap the dealings from last season:

Bag Snob Blogger Tina Craig tweets an offense that was heard around DKNY headquarters. She was simply doing her job of critiquing the smooshy and extra-pleated designs of the Eldridge bag by Donna Karan. Craig’s tweet, which stated that the bag resembled a sea creature, caught the attention of DKNY PR. On the defensive line, DKNY personnel tweeted back “Haven’t you ever taken a picture of yourself that just doesn’t do you justice?” Through the keyboard jabs emerged a discussion which lead to the proud collaboration between Bag Snob x DKNY. Can you say winners on both sides? It was the DKNY firm that provided the production but the Bag Snob women who composed the designs, incorporated by their love of handbags and with real-deal bagista fundamentals in mind.
