The story behind Opening Ceremony is just as intriguing (if not more) as the handbags themselves. Opening Ceremony was actually an international creative forum of boutiques and gallery space designed to showcase emerging American designers alongside designers (both young and old) from all around the world.
The forum was established in 2002 by co-founders Carol Lim and Humberto Leon in downtown Manhattan. But what began as a place for other labels to bask in the limelight, soon became the inspiration for an in-house label designed by Leon. Although probably more well-known for their clothing and shoe lines, Opening Ceremony also offers a unique handbag collection that made its debut in 2012. There are not a ton of Opening Ceremony handbags floating around on websites like Shopbop.com. But I still like what I am seeing! Check them out below!
Opening Ceremony Rock Handsome Day Bag – $545
Painted calfskin leather takes center stage with this piece! The idea seemed a bit strange to me at first, but the unique look and texture is really growing on me. Plus I love the blue color!
Opening Ceremony Stud Mini Bag – $525
The floral studs are what immediately grabbed my attention with this piece. Round and pyramid-shaped studs have become the norm, so these are like a breath of fresh air!
Opening Ceremony Classic Handsome Backpack – $595
Fashion backpacks are making a bit comeback as a handbag alternative. They have enjoyed some momentum just in the last 6 months or so. If you opt for this style, go for the red. You won’t regret it!
