If you have ever read my previous BagBliss handbag blogs, Tom Ford is not a designer I write about all that often. To be honest I don’t think that Tom Ford’s namesake handbag line is as popular as their clothing and shoes. Nevertheless, I will see a style every once in awhile that really catches my eye and that is exactly what is happening here with the Fisherman Hook Hobo Bag
Tom Ford’s Fall 2016 Bag Collection is said to be inspired by heroines of the late ’50s and early ’60s films – Kim Novak in Vertigo, Tippi Hedren in “The Birds,” and Grace Kelly in “To Catch A Thief.” When I look at this particular piece, I don’t really see that. What I do see is a simplicity that could only come from Tom Ford and unique details that couldn’t possibly be Tom Ford. Is that even possible? Apparently it is!
I really like the unusual hardware on this piece. Oddly, the Neiman Marcus description says “fisherman hook”. I certainly wouldn’t call it a fisherman hook. It looks very much like a clevis fastener instead, which I suppose is sometimes used in sailing but I’m still confused where the name comes from. Oh well, there is no doubt this is a gorgeous bag. I love the simple design, black leather and contrasting strap. And, yes, I think the unusual hardware adds just the right about of interest.
This oversized tote is crafted from supple leather, detailed with a brushed rose gold hook and finished with a drawstring accented with gold hardware. Its sizable twill-lined interior will easily hold a tablet and spare pair of flats, while the smaller pockets are ideal for keeping your keys, phone and wallet.
