Bag Designer Awards 2011: BRS picks Alexander Wang

When asked to pick my favorite handbag designer for 2011, I found myself wondering how I could possibly pick just one. There are so many beautiful handbags out there and so many wonderful designers. You can certainly see my dilemma here! But if I must pick one, then I will pick Alexander Wang. Hands down, he is one of the most loved designers this past year. His designs are well known for their urban street vibe. They are edgy, yet sophisticated and chic.

Alexander Wang Azure Emile Satchel

Call it Azure or call it Cobalt it’s everywhere at the moment! Everywhere I look I see this gorgeous color of blue and I can’t keep my eyes off of it. I don’t even normally wear blue but I feel like the fashion industry is shoving it down my throat. Every designer is in on this blue trend and they have a reason to be, it’s beautiful!

The “Emile” by Alexander Wang looks absolutely stunning in Azure. As always, I can do without the shoulder strap but as a satchel it’s one fine looking bag. What I love most about the “Emile” is its odd looking shape. I could be wrong, but I don’t ever recall seeing a bag shaped like this and the bright color helps it pop out more.

Alexander Wang Morgan

Move over Coco and Rocco, you’re not the only styles sporting those mind-boggling studs underneath anymore. We’re glad to see that Alexander Wang has presented yet another fabulous design with those infamous oversized metal studs, the Morgan Hobo. They’re attractive, protective and give off such a chic vibe.

Alexander Wang Calfhair Rocco

Here on BagBliss and over at our sister site theBagForum, it comes to no surprise the amount of members that love the Rocco bag by Alexander Wang. It’s recognized as one of the hottest handbags in the world of fashion and it’s got the assets to prove it. With that said, Rocco fans be aware that there’s a new version available now on the Wang racks for the Fall/Winter season. Those who don’t easily accept change must not worry, as there are no large alterations to the new Rocco, instead, there’s a simple addition of the colder climates’ favorite textile.

Alexander Wang Eugene Bag

Alexander Wang is currently one of my favorite handbag designers. His designs are classic, beautiful and sophisticated. They are pretty timeless too, because they’re the type of bags that will never go out of style. Kind of like a Louis Vuitton no matter what day, week or year you buy a “Speedy” handbag it’s never ever going to go out of style. The “Speedy” has been in style for years and it will always be one of Louis Vuitton’s iconic handbags. Alexander Wang is basically the same type of designer. No matter what he creates it’s always going to be in style for years to come.

Alexander Wang Adele Clutch

Alexander Wang has certainly undergone some changes this last season. I find it interesting that he has been trading in his heavy studs for simple corner plates (much like those you would find on trunks or hard sided luggage). This hardware appeared on the Small Emile Tote, which I wrote about not too long ago. But here we are seeing this hardware again, although it is on a style that is vastly different from the one mentioned above. It’s called the Alexander Wang Adele Fold-Over Trunk Clutch and, if you ask me, I think the style is much more fitting for the hardware in question.

Summer Bag Trend: Linen Bags

During those warm summer months, nothing beats a brightly colored straw tote! It is the ultimate summer-only accessory! The only problem is that they aren’t appropriate for all occasions. Sometimes you need a chic style, even a professional-looking one. After all, many of us bagistas have that annoying thing called work that we have to go to and it doesn’t care if it happens to be a gorgeous summer day outside or not. But not to worry, you can still have a summer-only handbag and feel very work-appropriate at the same time! How? Try a classic, structured style in a neutral summer fabric! My favorites are linen and burlap. These fabrics are light and luxurious, yet so unexpected. Pictured below are a few of my favorite styles, check them out!

Rebecca Minkoff Linen Morning After Mini Bombe Bag – $374
A favorite among Minkettes, the Morning After Mini Bombe is a great classic style. I love the oatmeal linen canvas paired with the contrasting black patent leather trim. Sleek and simple, this style is perfect for carrying your everyday essentials!

Alexander Wang Ryan

I have no idea why, but I would say in the past year my love for smaller bags and clutches have grown. I use to be so anal about only using larger handbags but since I’m very unorganized I’m learning that less really is more in my case.

What I love about clutches, is that depending on what they look like they can either be ones you can carry around all day long or strictly in the evening. Obviously, evening clutches are usually satin, adorned in crystals or something very flashy. The Alexander Wang “Ryan” Handle Clutch is a perfect example of a clutch you can use all day long and all year long.
