Betseyville by Betsey Johnson ‘Call Me, Betsey’ Phone Satchel
For designer Betsey Johnson’s latest Spring accessory season, she released this ‘Call Me, Betsey’ Phone Satchel. Breathing to life the infamous 1970’s Telephone novelty bag, but in a more cartoon-ish colored rendition. Sorry guys, but unlike the 70’s novelty phone which could call out from any source by plugging in to any jack, this Betsey telephone bag is just your basic novelty purse. But hey, that’s what cellphones are for.

It should be no surprise (since I broadcast it everytime I speak about BJ,) I find Betsey Johnson’s designs to be either a hit or a total miss. Her bags are definitely bold and eye-catching, but no way would I carry such a bag.

Tell me what you guys think of this Betsey Johnson ‘Call Me’ phone bag. Or Betsey Johnson designs in general.

Steve Madden “Studio 54″ Embellished vs Betsey Johnson Jewel Clutch

Steve Madden “Studio 54″ Embellished vs Betsey Johnson Jewel Clutch

You can’t deny it – The Steve Madden “Studio 54″ Embellished shoulder bag is a copy of the Betsey Johnson Jewel Crystal Rhinestone Clutch.

Lets face it, there are two ways of look at this, either Steve Madden lacks creativity or just so happens he had the same purse-vision as Betsey Johnson – what a cowinkydink. I mean nothing is wrong with a brand occasionally inspiring their designs after another label, but when the bag looks beyond inspired and appears most obviously to be identically replicated, that’s just plain ridiculous.

Location:
Right now there isn’t a Betsey Johnson Crystal Rhinestone Clutch listed on eBay, but there are a few other styles available. Like the Heart Rhinestone Crystal version which was produced a short time after the original circular crystal design. Oh and one more thing – I am warning you the hobo-style is super heavy. So like after a long night out I will guarantee that your back will hurt the next day.

Also the similar price range is interesting. Right now the Steve Madden “Studio 54″ embellished synthetic leather (aka plastic) shoulder bag, is on sale at Macy’s department store marked down to $50.99, or you can scope out the virtual shelves of eBay to score a leather Betsey Johnson Crystal Rhinestone Clutch, on sale for around the same price.

Big bold and red! Betsey Johnson aka (by many fashionistas) “The Forever Young Designer” created this Betsey Johnson Forever Betsey Tote, a cheap-chic sort of bag that’s decorated with tattoo-inspired art with a mini horseshoe that’s sprinkled with rhinestones which is semi-hidden underneath the Forever Betsey signature chain and finished off with the double-dimple rhinestone hearts. This bag was produced in red, black or navy. However, at this time BetseyJohnson.com only has this bag in red and navy. Retail for this Betsey Johnson Forever Betsey Tote is only $115. Also, don’t forget about the matching Forever Betsey Tab Wallet that rings in at only $32 – how can you pass that up.

Okay so I don’t know exactly if Paris purchased the Betsey Johnson Forever Betsey Tote, but personally speaking that is the look I get right before I throw it in the purchase pile, especially when the bag is only $115.

Betseyville by Betsey Johnson Jet Set Weekender Bag

Betseyville by Betsey Johnson | Jet Set Betsey Weekender | $195 | View!
Summer is the best time of the year for traveling, especially weekend trips. Personally I would love to carry around this Betseyville weekender. It’s decorated with patches of many destination hotspots, such as Tokyo, Capri, Miami, LA, ect. – the best places in the world to travel to.

Measurements of this Betsey bag are 19 1/2″ width x 14 1/2″ height x 10″ depth. Just the right size to stuff in a few pairs of clothes or whatever you would need for a short weekend trip.

If in the mood for a short little getaway, then check out Villa Betsey, located in Barra de Potosi in the state of Guerrero Mexico. A glamorous romantic and very secluded Italian-Rivera Esque Villa that sits on top of a bluff over looking the coastline.

Ugly Friday: Betsey Johnson Cherry Pom

Bag Bliss the bag blog
Date Added: May 26, 2006

Discovered at macy’s the Betsey Johnson Cherry Pom combines a little bit of everything – what an eyesore. When I saw this bag I just knew that it was destined to be my number one pick for ugly item of the week. There is way too much going on here. You have plump cherries on a leopard print background that’s accented with 80′s style pom-poms and a bold gold colored luggage that reads “Betseyville by Betsey Johnson”.

I usually love the creative designs that Betsey Johnson produces but this one has too much blah for my taste. Less is More! Sorry BJ lovers

**I apologize if you own this bag or designed it, please don’t sue me.

About Designer Betsey Johnson

January 9, 2005

Betsey Johnson
Not for the fashion faint of heart, the Betsey Johnson collection has the same whimsical, over-the-top exuberance as its spirited namesake designer – a woman who cartwheels down the end of her fashion show runways. Founded in 1978 with ex-model Chantal Bacon, in conjunction with their first Soho retail store, Johnson’s eponymous label remains true to its original vision, and now boasts a network of stores worldwide. In business nearly 30 years, the designer recently purchased a Mexican hotel and added an infant-to-young girls collection to the company. The “original wild child,” Johnson still owns the majority of her organic homegrown label and continues to pull the strings as dramatically as she wants.

Colorful and capricious, a celebration of exuberance. Froth, embellishment, detail and sexiness describe the clothes, which can range from pink tulle ballerina skirts to silver micro-minis, floral-patterned stretch lace tanks and embroidered lace dresses. It’s a collection that’s embraced by both the prom-going set and long-time fans that are all grown-up.

Betsey Johnson’s love of movement and costumes stems from her days as a dancer. Later, as part of the Warhol scene in the sixties, Johnson put the velvet in the Velvet Underground (she later married band member John Cale) and dressed legendary models Twiggy and Verushka; Edie Sedgwick served as house fit model. Her foray into retail began with the Betsey Bunki Nini boutique in 1969. Now in her 60s, Johnson, seems unstoppable, and the awards continue to pile up: In 1999, the CFDA created the Timeless Talent Award just for her, and in 2002, she was inducted into the Fashion Walk of Fame on New York City’s Seventh Avenue. A survivor of breast cancer, Johnson remains an advocate in fighting the disease, creating one-of-a-kind items for auction and serving as Honorary Chairperson for the Fashion Targets Breast Cancer initiative.
