Kate Spade says goodbye to Kate Spade
“This is a hard decision, and I feel very emotional about it. But the emotions would be more about melancholy if I thought we weren’t doing the right thing. We are with the right partners – we wouldn’t make this decision otherwise. This an opportunity for employees, the fabulous teams we have in place, to take the baton and run away with it.” – Kate Spade
The accessory label was founded in 1993 by husband and wife team Kate and Andy Spade. But back in November the two have been talking about calling it quits.
Since Liz Claiborne bought-out Kate Spade it turns out that since then Mrs. Spade has been unhappy with the transition and has decided to exit her own line, immediately. Andy will stay and continue to work until the end of the year.
How can there be a Kate Spade label without the creativity of Kate Spade? Anyone think this will last or die off now that it’s under the Liz Claiborne umbrella?

I am not surprised but as a Kate Spade fan I am saddened by her departure.
I hope it doesn’t go down the drain like all the other Liz Claiborne lines.
Why would she sell out in the first place if she wasn’t planning on leaving. The owners of Juicy Couture did the same thing though….
I never liked Kate Spade bags, so this really doesn’t effect me. Im more of a Jack Spade Guy.
In my opinion, Kate Spade had to have been on the rocks since November that’s why they sold.
I wonder what she will do next.
Well hopefully the creative designer team can do a good job of replicating her designs.
Noooooo. Why? I think it wont be the same with out her. Like what maren said, look what happened to Juicy Couture. When the designers left the company the bags went from cute and girly to eeeh.
Im sad with this news. I hope the bags dont change too much.
I just found a Kate Spade at a garage sale in pristine condition! It’s so cute, I’m trying to figure out when it was made. I mourn the idea of no Kate Spade.
Very sad! Kate Spade was always a line that had it’s own cachet. Now it will just be LC redux.
