Marc Jacobs Rockabilly Shoulder Bag

Brand new for Fall 2009, the Marc Jacobs Rockabilly Shoulder Bag is one bag that really caught my eye. This bag is just so unique and gorgeous, I couldn’t help wanting to go in for a second look. The bag is constructed of laser-cut leather, pieced together into a swirled pattern. Even the side zippered pocket follows the curves, creating an interesting-looking opening where the fuchsia satin lining can peek through. Oddly enough, however, when I first saw this bag I thought it had to be a Marc by Marc Jacobs piece. But don’t be fooled ladies! This piece is actually from the Marc Jacobs Collection line and it comes with the price tag to prove it!
But wait just a minute here! What exactly does the word Rockabilly mean and what does it have to do with this handbag? For those of you that don’t know, the word “rockabilly” is a portmanteau of the words rock (as in rock ‘n’ roll) and hillbilly. It was one of the earliest styles of rock ‘n’ roll music and it had a great influence on the music of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, and many others. Now I’m not sure exactly what was going on in good ol’ Marc’s head when he designed this bag. But I can say that the swirls do give you this feeling of rhythm, something that lies at the very root of rockabilly music. However, I think I’m going to leave it up to all you Bag Bliss readers out there to come up with your own interpretations. It’s much more fun that way!

The Marc Jacobs Rockabilly Shoulder Bag measures 13″ x 10″ x 3″ and it retails for $1,350. You can find this lovely piece at NET-A-PORTER.COM!

I would definitely wear this bag. The waving detail is original and fabulous.
This sounds like a really cute bag. But the size makes me feel like this is more of a messenger style. idk. I always assosiate that style with guy laptop bags. I need to run to the mall and see it irl!
I was hoping this bag was available without the pink lining.
I wonder if this bag will come in other colors
This is more for my daughter. I love the young, hip design.
(saying that made me feel extremely old. haha)
I would rock this bag.
I just love this bag! I’m saving up now.. lol
How awesome is this bag? Do you guys think it will ever come in a blue lining?
Beth – What do you mean by messenger bag? I don’t see it…
I REALLY – REALLY LOVE THIS BAG!

I love the curvy wave detailing.. then the pop of pink. So wow! I love it.
Omg, I love this. I just wish that pink wasn't there, lol.
Pretty bag, but the details don't show off well on black. maybe in another color
I love swirls on this bag but I have to be honest...totally NOT what I was expecting after reading the title "Rockabilly". *Personally, I don't think the name is fitting.
