I’ve always held a weakness for straw handbags. Perhaps I’ll never get my money’s worth out of them, as a leather or canvas selection will most definitely make my first carrying pick. I’m really admiring what Carlos Falchi has brought to the bag racks this season with the Straw & Python Tote. It’s the daring and feisty collaboration of the straw textile with stunning python skin, creating one truly remarkable piece.
This doesn’t resemble your average straw bag as it arrives with a modernized look to it. The straw on this bag is not the flaky and roughly textured type; instead, it has a smooth and rubberized feel to it. The precisely woven straw leaves very little gaps throughout the body of the bag, from a distance; you may just think its upper body is made of good ol’ canvas. My favorite feature by far is the rich and luscious black python detail. Base, edging, handles and oversized tassel, all finished with a touch of exotic leather. If you look within the roomy tote, you’ll encounter a lovely pop of rich blue micro suede lining, a perfect touch to a classic cream and black exhibit. Falchi’s eye-catching tote features a $1,395 price tag that most would approve of; given the fact that this a unique exotic luxury.
