I know it is a little early to be thinking about school. After all, it seems like summer has just begun. But with all these new designer backpacks floating around out there, I thought I would give this post a go. When I think of designer backpacks though, I typically think of Juicy Couture. However, this most recent outbreak of designer backpacks doesn’t seem to include a single piece from the velour-loving company. But that certainly doesn’t mean that what I found wasn’t just as playful and fun! Some of these backpacks, however, are also down-right kiddie looking. So I’m warning you now, these babies aren’t for everybody. They would be perfect though for the little bagista in your life that is heading off to middle school or high school this fall. Net-a-Porter is one my favorite boutiques of all time. It’s one of those boutiques where if you just plan on virtually window shopping, you’ll still manage to find something you can’t live without.

And most recently Net-a-Porter has hit the big 1-0. 10 years in business is such a huge accomplishment – happy birthday!

Summer is here! And with warm weather comes bright colors! Er… right? While I do love my fuchsia F+C Mini City, I think I might be ready to try something new for Summer 2010. I heard that neutrals were supposed to be really hot this year, so I figured why not. And with that, I was off to check out all the neutral handbags this season has to offer. Katherine Kwei’s Spring/Summer 2010 Collection is here! And, I must say, these new additions are gorgeous! There really is something for everyone in this collection, whether you’re looking for the latest spin on one of her classic styles or something no one has ever laid eyes on before. These bags offer the perfect accent to any summer style, with season-appropriate colors and textures. Nothing screams “summer” like a white or off-white handbag! And, of course, Katherine Kwei has continued to stick with what she does best by incorporating her Chinese “Eternity” knot-inspired weave into each of her designs. All my life, I’ve been a devotee to leather handbags. Only straying to fabric bags for the good old diaper bag or beach bag and perhaps a utilitarian tote. I turned up my nose at canvas, satin, nylon and other non-leather bags. Oh, yes! I was a snob about Prada nylon too! I now have to apologize, admit I was small-minded and must re-frame my opinions! There are so many great new (and durable) fabrics in handbags that deserve a second look. Designers that were entrenched in leather now embrace nylon and other materials. It could be that they were simply looking for less expensive alternatives than leather or even more eco-friendly materials, but I believe they’d made some great design choices as well!

Yes, the classic Muse bag is now available in nylon! Same great shape and style for $1195. The leather version is $1550. Not a significant different, but it looks great just the same! Perhaps you can pick up a great pair of sandals for the difference?

This odd handbag silhouette is nowhere near being called a classic, but apparently more than one designer house digs the oversized, trapezoid-ish tote bag look. They’re both black, edgy, and somehow remind me of a giant fortune cookie, but who exactly came up with this concept first?

The Grant Large Nylon Hobo is one of the latest totes to hit the L.A.M.B scene. A puffy nylon silhouette is held together by an interwoven leather handle and decorated with vertical zippered pockets up front. Prior to L.A.M.B’s release, Maison Martin Margiela had this idea printed on their sketchpads first. Their version of the oversized Leather Slouchy Hobo lacks zippers up front (they’re actually built onto its sides instead), and features a sturdier silhouette; a more defined braided shoulder strap and cool tassel detailing.
