Gucci History: Gucci Signature Double G

    By jennifer · On November 5, 2015

A little Gucci history for you all. The story behind the double G.

The interlocking double-G Gucci logo that you have all become familiar with, is in tribute to the father of the House of Gucci, Guccio Gucci. Gucci was founded by Guccio Gucci in Florence during the early 1920′s, around the same time as Prada and Balenciaga.

Prior to creating the fashion brand, Guccio worked at the Savoy Hotel in London during the late 19th century. Gucci’s inspiration was lit up by all the amazing luggage and bags that guests would bring in, as well as the luxurious luggage makers of the time, such as H.J. Cave and Louis Vuitton. A couple years later, Guccio Gucci packed up his bags and returned to Florence and turned his dream idea into reality.

Guccio Gucci opened his first workshop in Florence on Via delle Caldaie in 1921. Utilizing the skills of local Tuscan artisans, Gucci started with creating simple leather satchel bags for horsemen and then moved to making luxury luggage.

It wasn’t until his three sons Aldo Gucci, Vasco Gucci, and Rodolfo Gucci joined their father and expanded the company to include stores in Milan, Rome, as well as additional shops in Florence. And the rest is history..
