Marc Jacobs combining the collection and diffusion lines

Everyday Classic Black Marc Jacobs J Marc Shoulder Bag

    By BrS · On March 8, 2016

I am having a hard time with this whole Marc Jacobs combining the collection and diffusion lines thing. In case you missed it, I briefly mentioned this in my post about the Marc Jacobs Heart Cross Body Bag. Marc Jacobs decided to intermingle high end and low end pieces all under the same name. For me though, it is kind of weird looking at these pieces online. I will see two seemingly similar styles with extremely different price points. Then again, there are some very “sophisticated” pieces out there that sell for the lower price point. So, I suppose, the change isn’t all bad. Take a look at the Marc Jacobs J Marc Shoulder Bag, for example.

Just looking at this piece, it is easy to see how it could have passed as an old Marc Jacobs Collection piece. The smooth, goatskin exterior and gold hardware give this piece a luxurious feel. The clean lines and vintage-inspired styling contribute to the overall look as well. It definitely bears no resemblance to traditional Marc by Marc Jacobs styles. Yet, this piece has a lower price point (less than $500). It is rather strange, especially when a similar style called the Marc Jacobs Trouble Classic Shoulder Bag retails for more than three times as much. But if you look at it from the angle of getting that Marc Jacobs look without the price tag, this piece looks like a pretty good deal.

The Marc Jacobs J Marc Bag is available at Neiman Marcus.
