Jessica Simpson does Rafe’s Spring ’06 Rivington Handbag
Oh that Jessica Simpson. . . . Spring 2006 Rafe released the Rivington handbag collection that was designed with strong memorable features such as the double row of studded details, cute knotted sides, dangling tassel zip pull, double wrapped knotted handles, and accented with antique brass hardware on the soft boxy style bag. . . . one year later, Spring 2007 Jessica Simpson released a mirror image of Rafe’s bag. Way to go Jess.

Went shopping today and discovered the lovable new Citizen of Humanity Love Avedon denims which totally reminded me of the Louis Vuitton That’s Love tote – both share the “Loveâ€? logo, which I absolutely adore. Just imagine how lovely your outfit would look… strolling down the streets in the new CH Love Denims while rocking the new LV That’s Love Tote. Or is that too much love?

BeBe Does Louis Vuitton Riveting Bag
BeBe does the Louis Vuitton Riveting Bag, another fine example of designer inspiration. The thought of a brand such as BeBe, copying another designer label such as Louis Vuitton shouldn’t come as a huge surprise. I mean really alot of lower labels are inspired in someway by highend designer handbags. More commonly Louis Vuitton is the victim.

Both bags, identical in shape and structure are designed with the same studded and square pattern formation and topped off with a signature brass plaque. But what they don’t have in common is the quality in craftsmanship and life expectancy. Also usually in most cases when a brand replicates a design they use synthetic leather (aka plastic) instead of the good stuff. Not in this case. The BeBe bag is made with leather material.

Sure the BeBe purse is cute and trendy, but chances are wont last you years to come like the Louis Vuitton Riveting…. there is only one Riveting bag.

Forever21 Does the Mulberry Emmy Handbag
Uh-hu. Looks like Forever21 is back to their old ways, by producing lines of clothing and handbags that obviously share strong similarities and characteristics. Same exterior and interior pockets and zippers, post-man style lock detailing, and all the little hardware features are identical.

Let’s compare some more shall we…

> Forever21 Emmy-inspired purse is created with faux-plastic luggage-colored leather. Price of this inspired plastic bag will cost you a minimal $32.80

> Mulberry Emmy handbag is the original in design and created with textured oak-colored leather. Price of the leather Emmy will set you back hefty $1,167

Side Note: Follow the leader? Forever21 better be careful, they don’t want Mulberry to follow after Diane von Furstenberg and sue for copyright infringement.

Designer Straw Beach Baskets for all Budgets
Here are a few Straw Beach Baskets that all share similar characteristics but differ greatly in price:

> Merona Large Straw Tote – On the super cheap-cheap side of the spectrum, it’s this Merona Target brand shoulder bag. This bag is made of woven corn husk that have been dried then dyed which gives it a yellowish tint. The bag also features synthetic-leather (plastic) trim and a tab flap over closure. Measurements: 20â€? length x 12â€? width x 6â€? depth.

I wouldn’t call this bag cheap-looking but rather not quality. I honestly doubt it will last you the whole summer, but hey that’s what $20 will get you.

> Michael Kors ‘Santorini Large’ Shopper – Priced in the middle ground, it’s the Santorini tagged in the $300 range. This roomy beach-chic tote features leather straps, gold hardware trim and topped off with the signature Michael Kors flap over buckle. Measurements: 14″ width x 10″ height x 6″ depth.

In my opinion, out of the bags above this bag comes in at the best deal. It’s a struggle to find a good beach bag, and I wouldn’t want a bag that would fall apart before the summer is over (talking to you Merona). But maybe that’s just me.. I’m a firm believer in quality over quantity.

> Limited Edition Coach Jasmine Tote – And finally on the higher-priced side of the spectrum, it’s the Coach basket, that retails for a whopping (for Coach) $998. The bag is dressed in hand-woven straw, trimmed with bright orange leather and snakeskin trim and features the Fragrance fabric lining. Measurements: 24â€? length x 13.5â€? height x 10.5â€? width. There are other bags in the new Coach Straw line that retail for slightly less.

Steve Madden “Studio 54″ Embellished vs Betsey Johnson Jewel Clutch

You can’t deny it – The Steve Madden “Studio 54″ Embellished shoulder bag is a copy of the Betsey Johnson Jewel Crystal Rhinestone Clutch.

Lets face it, there are two ways of look at this, either Steve Madden lacks creativity or just so happens he had the same purse-vision as Betsey Johnson – what a cowinkydink. I mean nothing is wrong with a brand occasionally inspiring their designs after another label, but when the bag looks beyond inspired and appears most obviously to be identically replicated, that’s just plain ridiculous.

Location:
Right now there isn’t a Betsey Johnson Crystal Rhinestone Clutch listed on eBay, but there are a few other styles available. Like the Heart Rhinestone Crystal version which was produced a short time after the original circular crystal design. Oh and one more thing – I am warning you the hobo-style is super heavy. So like after a long night out I will guarantee that your back will hurt the next day.

Also the similar price range is interesting. Right now the Steve Madden “Studio 54″ embellished synthetic leather (aka plastic) shoulder bag, is on sale at Macy’s department store marked down to $50.99, or you can scope out the virtual shelves of eBay to score a leather Betsey Johnson Crystal Rhinestone Clutch, on sale for around the same price.

Designer “Trash Bags” for all Budgets: Baby Phat, bebe, Chanel
Why am I calling these totes “trash bags?” Well…. back when the Chanel Cabas tote first made its debut back in Fall of ’06, the new twist on the classic Chanel bag with its oversize unstructured shape and short chain hand-held straps resembled something like a trash bag. Well that was the black shiny patent version that looked a lot like a rubbish sack, not so much in the leather version, but I guess the name sort of latched on to this design.

Whatever your price range is, you to can get your hands on the super sized “trash bag” without breaking the bank.

This bag also comes with detachable pouch with zip top closure. You can catch the Chanel Cabas bags with current bids anywhere from $202 to $2,650.

Obviously the Baby Phat and bebe totes are inspired off of the Chanel Cabas “Garbage Bag”, but would you sport one of these cheaper copied bags?
