I have been lusting after the Cambridge Satchel Company lately. I don’t know what the appeal is. There is just something about the way they look. Classic, vintage, and let’s not forget that schoolgirl (or boy?) -ish charm! Not to mention it looked like Clara on Doctor Who was carrying one. I can’t be certain since the camera never really focused on the bag, but it sure looked like one! But is the Cambridge Satchel Company the only designer out there that makes these schoolbag-inspired pieces? Perhaps my obsession should not focus on one designer, but the style instead. I came across a fairly new designer today (okay, they were founded in 1999) and they have just the look I was going for. Introducing the Billykirk Schoolboy Satchel!
What is so great about this piece? Well, if you ask me, this bag has a lot of potential! The design is definitely schoolbag-inspired, but it has a more professional quality to it. What I mean is, it sort of looks like a portfolio. The interior features gusseted sides and a center divider, which certainly feels portfolio-ish. I also like the stiff tan milled leather, the simple flap closure with strap, and short top handle. This bag would be perfect for the work setting. Yet it isn’t so stuffy looking that you couldn’t carry it around every day.
