Imagine yourself staring down at a Rubik’s cube in your lap. Why won’t the colors match up? Frustrated, you decide to start pulling the stickers off and moving them around so you can finally say you solved the puzzle! Yep, that was me when I was a kid. I never was very good at solving a Rubik’s cube. The sad thing is, a cube isn’t the only shape those puzzles come in. You can find pyramid ones and, instead of squares, the individual sections are triangles. Are you visualizing what that looks like? Okay, good. Now imagine it on a handbag! That is the exact thought I had when I first laid eyes on the Bao Bao Issey Miyake Lucent Shopper!
This unique shopper is made up of dozens of mirrored triangles. They are arranged tightly together with a fabric backing binding them together. According to the description, the design is based on the concept of “shapes made by chance”. In other words, the designer wanted the bag to take on the shape of whatever was inside. The idea is interesting, to say the least. Although you sort of get the same effect with a flimsy fabric tote. Something like that wouldn’t have all the glam this piece can bring to a downtown look though!
