Most of the time, Bag Bliss readers will hear about how much I love the Spring and Summer months. While I do enjoy the nice weather and the fact I’m not freezing my butt off 24/7, there is actually something I don’t like about Spring. What is it, you ask? Take a second good look at this, as it’s not what it seems to be. I recently ran into this new clothing label Slow and Steady Wins the Race (yup, that’s its name), and I was utterly shocked at their latest handbag design, the 4 Sided Birken. No, I didn’t misspell anything, I’m not making this up, and I’m not pointing fingers either, but can you all see the resemblance to the French Couture Brand Hermes Birkin? Top handle straps, secure flap, square-ish silhouette, and leather body?!

I would never be caught dead carrying a fake and even designer inspired handbags are a big NO in my book. Clearly, the infamous Birkin inspired Slow and Steady’s version. It’s no surprise how a Hermes Birkin can cost the average person a kidney and their first born, surprisingly, the Slow & Steady’s Birken doesn’t run cheap as it carries a steep price tag of $1,100! Personally, I’d rather save my pennies for years to buy the original Hermes Birkin!

It seems that all anyone ever talks about is IT bags. So what exactly makes an IT bag and IT bag? After doing a bit of research, it appears as though the term was coined in the 1990s. During this time, the handbag market was experiencing explosive growth. Designers needed to come up with a design that would allow them to stand out in this seemingly never-ending sea of handbags. Producing a design that would become an IT bag was like the holy grail of the handbag world. But oddly enough, we still don’t really know what makes an IT bag an IT bag. Sure an IT bag is something that everyone must own, but why is that exactly? There are a lot of different possibilities, but I don’t think we can place our finger on just one.

And exactly what does all of this have to do with this handbag I have pictured here? Hopefully it is obvious! Meet the Longchamp ‘It Bag’ Horizontal Tote. A playful spin on the whole IT bag phenomenon, this otherwise plain looking tote has “Ceci est un IT BAG” written right across the front. Well, it technically may not be an IT bag per se.
